New York

Walking on the streets is what we like to do everywhere we go, not only in New York. It’s the best way to get a sense of the place and the people. The streets of New York are impressive with their huge buildings, neon advertisements and colorful people. Here are some tips for walking around New York:

5th ave & Broadway

This is where the biggest Apple store is located. Right next to it is Fao Schwarz store where both children and adults can have fun. You can visit the Trump tower which is open to the public every day. Even Donald Trump can cross your way:) Enter Tiffany & Co to view a real diamond ring. Experience Abercrombie & Fitch where nice-looking male models will guide you through the store. Go and check the Flatiron Building which can be seen in almost every movie shot in New York.

Times Square

It should be visited severals times – during day and night. One of the places I like most in the area is the M&M sweets store. It’s 3 floors full of M&M stuff – T-shirts, cups, magnets and a lot more. There are about 40 different tastes that you can try. It costs about $12 for 1/2 kilo.

In the area are also located most of the Broadway theaters where one can go and watch a classic musical. (TIP) Buying a ticket directly in the theater and for a weekend afternoon is cheaper than buying online.

Wall Street

It’s a bit dark in this area because of the high buildings. But the 9/11 Memorial is in the neighborhood and is a place to visit. (TIP) The entrance is free but the pass should be reserved online. The Memorial park is not something big, but touches your soul in a way. It cannot be explained. It must be seen.

Brooklyn

Walking in Brooklyn is a lot different than walking in other parts of the city. A lot of former factories are converted in modern lofts. There’s a view of the Brooklyn bridge and Manhattan bridge, and you can take a walk around Brooklyn Bridge Park. If you’re a beer fan, you can visit the Brooklyn Brewery but (TIP) have in mind that you should book several weeks earlier. For the ice-cream lovers we can recommend the the Brooklyn ice-cream factory.

Ice-skating

If you’re a fan of ice-skating there are several famous ice-skating rinks in New York – one in Rockefeller plaza, a bigger (and cheaper) one in Central Park and one at Citi Pond in Bryant Park. At Bryant Park there is also a Christmas market that opens at the end of November so if you get the chance to be in the city during this time of the year, go and check it. (TIP) It’s a great feeling to have a cup of coffee and walk along the High Line. It’s an former railroad transformed into a park which runs above the lower west side of Manhattan.

Take a walk in Central Park to enjoy the Bethesda Terrace, the bridges and the lakes seen in the movies.

Go to Sinatra Park in Hoboken, NJ to see the best view of Manhattan and try the sweets in Carlo’s Bake Shop. (TIP) Since there are always a lot of people waiting to try the cakes, you can order yours online and just collect it.
